An American author of the twentieth century, he is best known for his work, A Diem for Leibowitz, which was based on short stories he contributed to Fantasy and Science Fiction Magazine. His many collections of short stories include The View from the Stars and Conditional People.
He won a Hugo Award in 1955 for his short story, "The Darfsteller."
