Valentina Lisitsa started playing the piano when she was 3 years old and came At the age of 4, she had her first solo performance. Valentina is of Russian and Polish descent, her original hobby was playing chess and her dream was to become a professional chess player. But then, her parents sent her to study music at the Lysenko School for Musically Gifted Children, then the Kiev Conservatory, where she and her future husband Alexei Kuznetsoff, under the guidance of Tien Dr. Ludmilla Tsvierko. After meeting Kuznetsoff, Valentina took a more serious attitude towards studying music. In 1991, they won their first prize at The Murray Dranoff Two Piano Competition in Miami, Florida. That same year, they moved to the United States to continue their careers as concert performers. In 1992 they got married. In 1995 they made their first appearance in New York at the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center.
In 2007, Valentina Lisitsa first started uploading videos of her piano performance to her YouTube channel. Valentina's Chopin performance video hit #1 on Amazon's list of classical music videos and became the most viewed Chopin practice video on YouTube. To further her career, Valentina and her husband used all of their savings to burn the Rachmaninov with London Symphony Orchestra CD in 2010. In the spring of 2012 before her Royal Albert Hall debut, she signed a contract with Decca Records to release the Rachmaninov disc set. In mid-2012, she had nearly 50 million views on her Youtube channel.
