Who is Playwright John Fante?
An influential American fiction writer and screenwriter, he is known for his Bandini Quartet (1938-1985) book series, and especially for his semi-autobiographical novel, Asking the Sands (1939). His other works on dirty realism include Full of Life (1952), The Brotherhood of the Grapes (1977), and Dreams from Bunker Hill (1982).
His novel, Asking the Dust, has been adapted into a feature 2006 Paramount Pictures starring Donald Sutherland, Colin Farrell, and Salma Hayek.
 
 

Young / Before famous

After trying, and failing, to get his stories published by Mercury America, he finally received a letter of acceptance for his short story, Altar Boy. The work was accepted by editor H. L. Mencken on the condition that Fante type it up.
