As a child, he attended a village school. In 1955, he went to the North to study at the Southern School for Students. In 1964, he graduated from Hanoi National University of Education.
He used to be active in the student movement in the South, joined the army, built the base of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, wrote newspapers, wrote poems...
He was imprisoned in Thua Phu prison, and was released in 1968.
After 1975, he joined the Communist Youth Union; Chairman of Binh Tri Thien Arts Association, Standing Deputy Secretary of Thua Thien - Hue Provincial Party Committee.
He used to be active in the student movement in the South, joined the army, built the base of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, wrote newspapers, wrote poems...

He was born into a prestigious family with patriotic tradition and studiousness. His father was Nguyen Khoa Dang, a mandarin with a talent for peace of mind, which was handed down by folklore. Grandfather Nguyen Khoa Diem used to be the chief official. His grandfather was a patriotic Confucian who was elected to the Central American House of Representatives by Mr. Thuc Khang as Director. The paternal grandmother is the grandson of the king Minh Mang.
