In February 2016, the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam assigned him to Mr. Phan Dinh Trac was the Head of the Central Committee for Internal Affairs. In October 2017, he was elected as a member of the Secretariat at the 6th Central Conference, the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. On January 30, 2021, he was elected as an official member of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the election session of the 13th National Party Congress. Soon after, he was elected as a member of the Politburo of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the first meeting.
In a meeting on the 7th. March 3, in Hanoi, the head of the Central Committee for Internal Affairs, Politburo member, and Secretary of the Party Central Committee Phan Dinh Trac received and worked with many Vietnamese representative missions abroad before leaving to receive mission. He suggested that the Ambassadors need to be alert and firm in the face of the influences and manipulations of hostile forces, to prevent and not to "self-transform" and "self-evolve". Also at this meeting, Mr. Phan Dinh Trac also congratulated the Ambassadors who have been trusted by leaders of the Party, State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and people to be assigned to represent Vietnam abroad. He also wished the Ambassadors well complete their assigned tasks.
