Psychologist and member of the revolutionary new 1960 Left The Book of Mental Illnesses. He is considered part of the anti-psychiatric movement because of his controversial views on the causes and treatment of serious mental disorders, which have been greatly influenced by existential philosophy.
He started a community project in psychiatry at Kingsley Hall, where he had patients and therapists co-habitate together.
