Perhaps best known as the star of the Rocket National Geographic reality series The Rednecks Channel, he is also known for his work as a science fiction writer and as an aerospace engineer for both NASA and Ministry of National Defense of America.
In addition to his work as a scientist, television personality, and author, he achieved proficiency as a martial artist, triathlete, pilot, and rock singer.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University, he received a master's degree in Physics; doctorate in optical science and engineering; and a Master of Science and PhD in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Alabama, Huntsville. In addition, he completed a Master of Science in Astronomy from Australia's University of Sydney.
The son of NASA contractor Charles Taylor and brother of Air Force Reserve Governor Gregory Taylor, Travis Taylor spent his youth in Decatur and Sommerville, Alabama. He later settled near Huntsville with his wife Karen and daughter Kalista Jade.
