In 2013, while shooting in Belize, he was involved in a serious boating accident and nearly died from blood loss from his broken leg. He was taxied with the Poseidon movie set Syfy Rex and was replaced in the lead by TV actor Brian Krause due to his life-threatening injury.

His first acting role was in 1987 on the television show Sidekick. He later went on to have other television parts and earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in the made-for-TV series I Know My Name Is Steven in 1989. That's when he was cast. for Parker Lewis Can't Lose, which he starred in from 1990-1993.
His mother was a graphic artist, painter, writer, and poet, while his father, Joseph Charles Nemec was a production designer in the film industry and counts The Goonies to his credits. . His father was the inspiration behind him and his sister, assistant director Anastacia C. Nemec, entering the film industry. He has two children with his ex-wife.
