Who is TV show The Debaters?
“The Debaters” is an English-language debate program for high school students across the country on VTV7 channel by the Education Program Production Center - Vietnam Television ( VTV7) and British University Vietnam (BUV) jointly produce.
For the purpose of training students to think critically and eloquently, while encouraging the voice of students on the Education forum. Teams from the perspective of support and opposition will jointly raise their views and opinions before the program's recommendations on issues: school, education, environment, society ... under many different viewing angles. The contest is also an opportunity for you to get acquainted with many high school students across the country.
Besides, participate in “The Debaters”, High school students will experience the most original form of debate - debating entirely in English. It will be both an opportunity and a challenge for students who are passionate about English and debating. Basically, the game rules of "The Debaters" are similar to the program "School Teen" familiar to the audience of VTV7 with 4 rounds: 1, 2, 3 and feedback. However, there is still the difference that a team of "The Debaters" will have 4 people and are not required to come from the same high school and regardless of nationality. Moreover, the ability to listen, speak, read and write English fluently also becomes a mandatory condition if students want to participate in the contest.
“The Debaters” will held in the form of a knockout competition. The 12 best participating teams selected from the Selection round will conduct a draw to be divided into 2 groups: Group A and Group B. 6 teams from each group will be drawn to compete directly against each other. After the group stage, there will be 6 winners entering the quarterfinals. In which, the team with the highest number of points in each group will be given a chance to enter the Semi-Finals. In the Quarterfinals, 4 teams will compete head-to-head for a chance to advance to the Semi-Finals. The team that wins the Finals will have the opportunity to participate in the World Debating Championship – Asia Region 2020.
