Vietnamese Emperor Nguyen Nhac profile

Who is Vietnamese Emperor Nguyen Nhac?
Nguyen Nhac's full name is Nguyen Van Nhac, the founder of the Tay Son Dynasty, ruled the country from 1778 to 1788, with the title Thai Duc Emperor. In 1789, he gave up his imperial title and ceded the throne to his younger brother, Quang Trung (Nguyen Hue), while he holds the title Tay Son Vuong. He and his two younger brothers, Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Lu, also known as the Tay Son Brothers or the Tay Son Tam Kiet, were the people who stood up to lead the Tay Son uprising, ending the civil war between the Nguyen in the South and Trinh in the North, overthrowing these two groups and the Later Le Dynasty.
In historical books, the Tay Son brothers were surnamed Nguyen, but they did not specify what their ancestors were. There is a theory that the ancestor of the Tay Son brothers is the Ho family in Huong Cai village, Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An. Nguyen Nhac and his two younger brothers studied both literature and literature with teacher Truong Van Hien. It was this teacher who discovered that Nguyen Hue was a talented person and advised the three brothers to revolt to build great karma. In the early years, Nguyen Nhac played the most important role.
In 1765, Vu King Nguyen Phuc Khoat died, the Nguyen family in Cochinchina became increasingly confused in choosing a successor. Vu Vuong originally established the 9th son, Nguyen Phuc Hieu, as the crown prince, but the crown prince died early, leaving a son named Nguyen Phuc Duong. Vu's eldest son, Nguyen Phuc Chuong, also passed away. Theoretically, the second son, Nguyen Phuc Luan, would succeed the king, but at that time Truong Phuc Loan held great power, so he called himself "national vice", killing Luan and establishing Nguyen Phuc Thuan (Dinh Vuong). Nguyen Phuc Khoat's 16th son became king when he was 12 years old.
Nguyen Nhac took the opportunity to mess up the Nguyen court, gathered rebel forces in Tay Son hamlet. The Tay Son insurgent army included Kinh, Montagnard, and Chinese people participating in large numbers. Three cousins Nguyen gathered the Montagnards, set up a war zone, stood up to launch an uprising, in the name of opposing National Vice-Chancellor Truong Phuc Loan. Nguyen Nhac waved the uprising flag in 1771.
After becoming strong in Tay Son hamlet. The uprising quickly spread, and the insurgents also won a number of battles against the Nguyen lords who came to suppress the uprising. At that time in Quy Nhon, there was a rich man named Huyen Khe who often helped Nguyen Nhac financially, because of that, he equipped more weapons and recruited many troops. In 1773, Nguyen Nhac and Tay Son army invaded and occupied Kien Thanh hamlet, dividing the generals to look after them. Nguyen Nhac oversees two districts, Bong Son and Phu Ly. The owner of the second farm is Nguyen Thung who keeps Tuyen Vien district, the third camp owner, Huyen Khe, takes care of logistics. Nguyen Nhac also had a secret relationship with the lord of the remaining Champa kingdom, bringing troops stationed at Thach Thanh camp to help each other.
After the base was solid, Nguyen Nhac launched an attack on Quy Nhon citadel, a major town. of Dang Trong, which was the capital of Do Ban of the old Champa army. Quy Nhon is the center of the South Central region, so if you can occupy this place, you can master the whole South Central region. Nguyen Nhac used a daring scheme to capture the citadel. He sat himself in a cage for the soldiers to bring to Quy Nhon citadel and hand it over to general Nguyen Khac Tuyen, pretending to be soldiers who rose up to arrest the "enemy" generals and lead them back to the Nguyen lords. Nguyen Khac Tuyen thought it was true, so he put the Nguyen Nhac prize in. At midnight, the Tay Son army opened a cage for Nguyen Nhac and, in collaboration with the foreign hospital, rushed in to capture Quy Nhon citadel. Nguyen Khac Tuyen panicked, abandoned his family and ran away.
Capturing Quy Nhon, Nguyen Nhac led his army to attack Quang Ngai. Then, he brought troops to fight Phu Yen. By 1773, the Tay Son army captured Dien Khanh, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan, and Binh Khang, the Nguyen army had to retreat to the South. At that time, the Tay Son army was the owner of the land of Quang.

Though Nguyen Nhac was the one who launched the Tay Son movement, and also the one who had great merit in the early days, but because of Nguyen Hue's exploits. making his name somewhat obscured. Many historians even criticized him for his incompetence and criticized his mistakes. But if viewed objectively, he made wise decisions at key moments, building a powerful Tay Son insurgent army from the very beginning.
