Who is Vietnamese Emperor Tran Anh Tong?
Tran Anh Tong's real name is Tran Thuyen, the era name is Hung Long, also known as Hung Long De, is the fourth king of the Tran dynasty in Vietnamese history. The reign of King Tran Anh Tong was from April 1293 to April 1314. He is also a famous poet of Vietnamese literature.
Tran Anh Tong is the eldest son of King Tran Nhan Tong Tran Kham, the third king of the Tran dynasty, is the grandson of Tran Thanh Tong Tran Hoang. His mother is the daughter of Tran Quoc Tuan and Kham Tu Bao Thanh Hoang Queen. On November 8, 1278, King Tran Thanh Tong passed the throne to Tran Kham or Tran Anh Tong. But it was not until 1292 that King Tran Nhan Tong established Tran Thuyen as Hoang Thai Tu, then Tran Thuyen was 16 years old. The court chose Tran Quoc Tang's daughter as the Crown Princess.
In 1293, Tran Nhan Tong passed the throne to Tran Anh Tong. In the old history, King Tran Anh Tong was praised as a wise man who listened to his father's ideas, and at the same time knew how to use talents such as Doan Nhu Hai, Truong Han Sieu, Pham Ngu Lao, Tran Nhat Duat... During the reign of King Tran Anh Tong, the country of Vietnam flourished. definitely up. He was instrumental in defeating Ai Lao's territorial conquests in the west, stopping the encroachment of the Nguyen people in the north, and expanding Dai Viet territory in the south by marrying his sister, Princess Huyen Tran for King Chiem Thanh.
When he first ascended the throne, King Anh Tong often drank and indulged in night zombie games, once even being hit in the head with bricks by strangers. He was rebuked by the Crown Prince, so since then he has been more lucid, no longer addicted to alcohol as before. He was the king who abolished the custom of tattooing dragons on the thighs of Dai Viet kings. He attaches great importance to the gentle treatment of wisdom. Contrary to the liberal appointment of officials at the beginning of his reign, he was later careful in using talents. Thanks to the help of His Majesty the Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, King Tran Anh Tong maintained the flourishing economic, cultural and political development of Dai Viet.
King Tran Anh Tong was an avid researcher. study Buddhism, and is a follower of Pure Buddhism. In 1299, Emperor Tran Nhan Tong returned to Yen Tu mountain in Quang Binh to cut her hair, ordained, and took the name Giac Hoang. Dieu Ngu and founded Truc Lam Zen School. This is the first Buddhist church in Vietnam. King Tran Anh Tong had active support in the development of the church of Dieu Ngu. In the book "The Three Patriarchs of Strength" it is said that Anh Tong was "the great benefactor of the Buddhadharma".

Late 1304, Tran Anh Tong requested Dieu Ngu to transmit the Bodhisattva Mind in Thang Long, This incident has encouraged many mandarins, worshipers to take refuge in the Buddhist Sangha. In the book "Vietnamese Buddhist history" it is recorded that King Anh Tong provided masons and materials to build monasteries and retreat rooms. He also built many large Buddha statues, and at the same time called on palace people and kings to pay tribute to the land to establish centers of cultivation. In the years 1313 and 1319, King Anh Tong took gold and silver from the national treasury and offered it to the Second Patriarch Phap Loa to distribute to the poor.

The Tran kings before Anh Tong's time all practiced Zen Buddhism, but by the time of King Anh Tong, Tantric Buddhism had begun to be introduced into Dai Viet Buddhists, including the king. In 1318, he requested Ban De Da Osha See Loi for a tantric Buddhist text.

In the first lunar month of 1305, King Tran Anh Tong made his fourth son, Tran Manh, crown prince. On the 18th day of the 3rd lunar month, 1314, he passed the throne to Tran Manh Tu Tran Minh Tong then go back to Thien Truong at Nam Dinh. He was given the title of Quang Nghieu Due Vu Thai Thuong Hoang De. He still participates in government affairs, often advising Tran Minh Tong to trust and use talented people to make the country prosperous.

On April 21, 1320, Tran Anh Tong died at the palace. Chongguan, enjoys 45 years old. His body was buried at Thai mausoleum in Yen Sinh now Quang Ninh.

Works Tran Anh Tong's "Thuy Van Essay" consists of two books, including many paintings with poetry titles. However, he burned this book of poems before his death. Now there are only 12 copies of this work remaining in the "Vietnamese sound exam". The most notable of these 12 manuscripts are descriptions of scenes such as "Ssoong Son Tu" or "Van Tieu am".
