Hung Dao Vuong, born Tran Quoc Tuan, was born into a family of mandarins, whose father was An Sinh Vuong Tran Lieu, and his uncle was Tran Thai Tong. From an early age, he was known as a lover of fighting games, when he was 6 years old he knew how to write poetry. Growing up, Tran Quoc Tuan proved to be an erudite scholar, both good at literature and well-versed in the three strategies, riding horses, and arching proficiently. In 1257, when the Nguyen army invaded our country for the first time, he was assigned the task of leading the army to maintain the northern border.
In 1285, 30 years after the Mongol-Nguyen army invaded our country for the second time and for the third time in 1287, Tran Quoc Tuan was again appointed as a military ruler and won a glorious victory.
Tran Quoc Tuan is a talented general with enough talent. As a general, he always loved the people, loved the soldiers, he always considered the army and people as a bright path. As the general meaning, he considers the right over the good. As a general, he knows where life will lead. As a brave general, he was ready to rush into dangerous places to kill the enemy and make merit, so in the glorious battle of Bac Dang for thousands of generations was his great achievement. As a trusted general, he showed the soldiers in advance what he would gain by following him, and what would happen if he disobeyed him. So in all three times he fought the Mongol-Nguyen army, he achieved great feats. The gardening plans without empty houses on all the roads that the enemy passed, the coordinated activities between the wounded soldiers and the regular army of the state. Even the enemy had to mention the words Hung Dao Vuong with respect and admiration.
Besides his sudden military thought, he also set an example of wise loyalty and deception. abandoned their own feuds to unite the nobles and generals in the court in order to support the king, help the country, and defeat the enemy. He is remembered by history books with a sentence to King Tran Thanh Tong when the country was in a situation of thousands of pounds hanging by a hair: "Please, Your Majesty, first cut off my head and then surrender". Tran Quoc Tuan is not only considered a public god of the Tran dynasty but also a great hero of our nation.
On August 20, 1300, Tran Quoc Tuan died in Van Kiep. After his death, he was conferred by the court as the Grand Master, the patriarch of the kingdom, and the martial artist Hung Dao Dai Vuong.
