Carol Huynh is a Vietnamese-Chinese Canadian female freestyle wrestling athlete. She was the first athlete to bring home the 2008 Summer Olympics gold medal for the Canadian team, when she won the 48kg heavyweight category in freestyle wrestling.
Carol Huynh's parents Vietnamese of Chinese descent. Her father was born in China, and her mother was born in Vietnam. When her parents got married and had two children, they decided to cross the border from Vietnam to seek asylum in Canada. Carol Huynh is the first child of her parents born in Canada. At the age of 15, Carol Huynh started wrestling. In 1998, she attended Simon Fraser University and later graduated with a degree in Psychology.
On August 16, 2008, Carol Huynh won the freestyle wrestling competition, with a certificate Wrestling's first gold medal for the Canadian team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2012, she participated in the Summer Olympics held in London-England, however she only won the medal. bronze in the 48kg weight class. Carol Huynh also won 1 gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, 2 gold medals at the Pan American Games and won the Canadana 11 times. In 2013, she was appointed to the position of President of the International Wrestling Association. Nine years after winning a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Carol Huynh has been inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame Class.
