Callan McAuliffe's first role was on the television series "Comedy Inc", followed by a role on "Blue Water High" and a recurring role on "Packed to the Rafters". He took on his first leading role in the Australian film Franswa Sharl. The first American film McAuliffe starred in was Warner Bros' film, "Flipped", directed by Rob Reiner. He got the role of Bryce in "Flipped", while he was on vacation in the US. The film is inspired by the 2001 novel of the same name by the author Wendelin Van Draanen.
In 2010 appeared in the science fiction film "I Am Number Four based" based on the novel by author Pittacus Lore, produced by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay. He was cast as Uriel in the movie "Alex Proyas" with actor Djimon Hounsou. In 2012 he starred in the film "Underground: The Julian Assange Story". In 2015 he participated in "The Legend of Ben Hal" an Australian historical epic based on the true story of bushranger Ben Hall.
