Artist and architect who designed civilian buildings in post-World War II reconstruction. Also known as the widely published cartoonist, Acanthus, appeared in Punch, the Sunday Telegraph, The New Yorker, and The Builder. He is sometimes published as Hope in the Sunday Express.
He is an art historian and expert on Bavarian Baroque.

He won a scholarship at the age of 15 to the Bartlett School of Construction at University College London. His first taste of public receipt came when he won the 1930 design for London's first terminal building at Gatwick Airport.
