Dang Thi Dong met her husband, a famous former sniper Le Tuan Dong at the Mieu Mon shooting range. They practiced and competed together, but two years later, they officially fell in love and got married in 1982. The history of TTVN records that, right at the 1989 SEA Games re-integration, she and her husband appeared together and both won gold medals. They also stood side by side for 4 more SEA Games.
When attending the 18th SEA Games in 1995, Dang Thi Dong had just given birth to her second daughter more than a year ago, then her first son was 12 years old.
