Who is Composer Cung Tien?
Cung Tien, whose real name is Cung Thuc Tien, is a pre-war musician. He is a member of the Composers Association in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
At 14.15 years old, Cung Tien composed two widely popular songs "Thu Vang" and "Hoai Cam". "Both of these songs are classified as immortal songs of Vietnamese new music.
Since 1954, he has written quite a few other works. In 1987, Cung Tien wrote the piece "Chinh phu dipping", composed for 21 instruments. This work was first performed by chamber orchestra in San Jose, California, on March 27, 1988. In 1988, this work was awarded the National Art and Literature Award.
In addition to composing, Cung Tien also contributes to essays and comments on Vietnamese folk music as well as Western modern music.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Cung Tien participated in literary creation under the pen name Thach Chuong. He participates in literary criticism and criticism, as well as translation, for the magazines Creativity, Perspective, and Literature. He translated two short stories and published them in Vietnam: "Memoirs written in the basement" by Dostoyevsky and "A day in the life of Ivan Denisovitch" by Solzhenitsyn. After settling in the United States, he wrote for a number of newspapers under the pen name Dang Hoang.

When he was in high school, Cung Tien studied vocals and notation with two famous musicians Chung Quan and Shen Oanh.
From 1957 to 1963, Cung Tien studied economics in Australia and attended courses on piano, harmony, counterpoint, and instrumental arrangement at the Sydney Conservatory of Music.
Between 1970 and 1973, on a British Council graduate scholarship to study development economics at Cambridge, England, he attended classes in music history, musicology, and modern music theory at there.
