Who is Composer Pho Quoc Lan?
Composer Pho Quoc Lan specializes in composing pre-war music. His debut song is called "Spring Ly Huong" ("Gone when the peach blossoms lightly fall"). This song shares the same source of inspiration, the same melody with the song "Kuoc of nostalgia" by musician Pho Quoc Thang. After his first composition, he continued many other works such as: "Fragrance of Southern rice", "My brother" (about a soldier of the Republic), "Hope for the day you return", "Rejoice in harmony", " Peaceful sunshine", "My house" (Van Quang's poem).
Since 1960, he has been less creative and focused on working at the Cinema Center. He was sent to India to train in "assembling films and putting music into films". After he returned home from training, he continued to work at the Cinema Center until April 1975.
In 1978, he and his young son crossed the border for the first time but failed, was arrested and imprisoned in Con Dao for more than a year, was released from prison and was allowed to continue working at the Cinema Center. In 1981, he and his family successfully crossed the border, was sponsored by his brother Pho Quoc Thang to Texas.
Musician Pho Quoc Lan died on December 6, 2012 at his home in Houston, Texas, USA.

When he was a child, he studied piano with his brother, musician Pho Quoc Thang. In 1945, he studied piano "Banjo", "Mandoline" and notation in music class "Minh Tam" in Hanoi.
In 1946, he moved with his family to Giao Thuy, Nam Dinh until 1950, then returned to Hai Phong.
In 1952, he joined the Hoa Nien and Lua Hong cultural groups. In 1955, he immigrated to Saigon. Here, he collaborated with Saigon Radio and together with friends of artists and writers created the band Lua Hong.
In 1946, he moved with his family to Giao Thuy, Nam Dinh until 1950, then returned to Hai Phong.
