Dien An, born Nguyen Van De, is a golden musician, cinematographer, poet, and stage director. He was awarded the title of Excellent Artist by the Vietnamese government.
As a musician, Nguyen Van De uses two pseudonyms, Dien An and Phuong Kim. He is better known by the pen name Dien An. Yan'an was inspired by the place Yan'an in Shaanxi province, China because he admired the image of "Chinese revolutionary guerrillas". The pseudonym Phuong Kim was signed by him under the songs Forget each other and Loverh.
Dien An does not compose much and is not a professional musician. In his songwriting career, Dien An only wrote 12 songs, written before 1975. But he had two quite successful compositions such as: Forget each other, The Last Wound. Farewell Night, A Dream of Life (1970), Other songs such as: Lover (Phuong Kim), The Person Far From You, The One You Bringed, Half a Sad Love, Life Changed, Please Give It Back, The End Love Road (Duong Quang Cat & Dien An), Let's Forget Each Other (Phuong Kim), The Soul Withered Leaves, The Last Time (1970), Someday.
Dien An is also a cinematographer, he shoots movies for a number of works by director Le Hoang Hoa like The ghost of the Hua family, the church steeple, The real husband Reluctantly, Knight Reluctant,Vengeance on a Wild Horse...

As a child, Dien An attended Saint Pierre Primary School with director Le Hoang Hoa. He then moved to Saigon and attended the Saigon Film School. After graduating, he returned to work at the Saigon Cinema Center. In 1966, he moved back to work at Saigon Television Station as a television director and continued to work with the Television Station Ho Chi Minh City later until his retirement in 1996.
