He attended high school at La San School in Quy Nhon. When he passed the baccalaureate, his mother rewarded him with a 4-band radio, from which he often listened to revolutionary music and practiced composing songs since then.
In April 1972, musician Tran Long An went to the liberated area. In early April 1974, he went to the North to study. In Hanoi, according to his wishes, he entered the Vietnam Music School and was given all the most convenient means to study.
