In 2015, her ex-boyfriend filed a lawsuit in court to claim custody of her daughter. Wanting to protect her daughter, she decided to take her to China, but she was arrested by US police at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The arrest warrant was decided by a French judge who accused Vu Ha of deliberately carrying his child away, not returning his daughter to Richard Froger.
