She had a traumatic childhood: her father orchestrated a murder, suicide, in which he shot both her mother and grandfather. At the age of seventeen, while employed as an exotic dancer, she met her future husband, Larry Flynt.
She grew up with an older brother named Richard and sisters named Debbie, Sherry, and Marsha. After their father murdered their mother and committed suicide, she and her siblings were placed in an Ohio orphanage.
