Love for football formed from school age

Quach Thu Em was born in 1995, is of Khmer ethnicity, the youngest child in a family with a revolutionary tradition in Duong Dao hamlet, Ho Thi Ky commune, Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province. While her uncle and brother both work in the police industry, her family wants her to follow a stable path, true to the traditional direction. During the training process, her family continued to ask Thu Em to return to her hometown to complete her cultural studies program. Before the high school graduation exam, her nostalgia for the field prompted her to ask her family for permission to go to the city to practice again. Keeping her promise, Thu Em passed the high school graduation exam and then returned to the city. Ho Chi Minh, officially committed to a professional sports career. She started out as a striker in 11-a-side soccer, but during training, she was often assigned to guard the goal. Here, the coaching staff discovered her ability to react and catch the ball well, thereby orienting her towards the goalkeeper position.

This achievement became a great motivation, giving her more confidence to persevere in practicing and perfecting herself. However, behind the glory are days full of mental and physical challenges. The most memorable was the serious injury at the 2016 National Women's Soccer Championship, when Thu Em collided strongly with the opposing striker and collapsed on the field. The diagnosis showed that she had four double fractures of her spine - an injury that seemed to end her career.

With extraordinary strength, after only three months of treatment and recovery, Thu Em returned to practice to the surprise of her teammates. It was that moment of crossing the line between giving up and continuing that clearly portrayed the bravery of a true athlete.

The desire to contribute to the homeland

Thu Em graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports. Ho Chi Minh with the intention of becoming a coach in the future. She hopes that when possible, she will open women's soccer training classes in her hometown, contributing to cultivating talent and spreading the love of sports to the young generation.
