His notable works include The Paranoid Style in American Politics, The Age of Reformation, and Anti-Intellectuals in American Life. He won the Pulitzer Prize twice. first, in 1956, for a book on the populist movements of the 1890s, and again in 1964 for a work on the subject of American intellectuals.
