Young / Before famous

While a student at Yale University, he took children's book art classes taught by Maurice Sendak. After completing further studies at Temple University's Stella Elkins Tyler School of the Arts, he illustrated his first children's book, Emily Upham's Revenge (Avi), in 1978.
