As a student, Magic Johnson played on high school and college football teams. He made an important contribution to the championships of the school's football team where he studied. He was then recruited directly to the Lakers in the 1979 NBA draft. Magic Johnson and his teammates won the championship, and Magic Johnson was voted Best Player in the NBA Finals. He and the Lakers then won four more championships in the 1980s. In 1991, Johnson abruptly announced his retirement, after he revealed he had contracted HIV. However, in the 1992 All-Star Game, he returned to the competition and won the All-Star MVP Award. After returning to the competition, Johnson received opposition from other athletes, so he decided to retire for the second time. In 1996, Johnson once again appeared in the Lakers shirt. Since 1996, he has played for the Lakers a total of 32 games, before officially announcing his retirement.

In addition, Johnson was a member of the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team ("The Dream Team"), which won a Gold Medal at the 1992 Olympic Games. Also in 1992, he left the NBA and founded so the Magic Johnson All-Stars basketball team, specializes in competing around the world. In 1996, he was named one of the NBA's 50 greatest volleyball players of all time.
