Terry A. Anderson is an American journalist. He works for The Associated Press (AP). In 1985, he was taken hostage by Shi'ite Hezbollah fighters and held until 1991. In 2004, he unsuccessfully applied to the Ohio Senate.

Anderson grew up in Batavia, New York. He graduated from Batavia High School in 1965. Originally a journalist by profession, he was in the United States Marine Corps for six years, serving as a combat journalist. . He was also a participant in the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he attended Iowa State University; in 1974 he graduated with two majors: journalism and mass communication; political science.
He later joined the Associated Press, serving in Asia and Africa before moving to Lebanon as a reporter in 1983.
Anderson spent some time living in Nicholasville, Kentucky where he worked. teaches journalism at the University of Kentucky In 2009, Anderson joined the faculty of the School of Journalism at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. In 2011, he became a visiting expert at the Newhouse S. I. Traffic School at Syracuse University.
Until 2013, he was the Honorary Chairman of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a non-profit organization that supports press freedom worldwide. In 2014, he moved to Gainesville, Florida, to teach a course in International Journalism at the University of Florida.
