While studying at San Francisco State University, Andrew Lam wrote for Pacific News Service. In 1993, he won the Society of Professional Journalists' Outstanding Young Journalist Award.
Currently, Andrew Lam is the editor of New America Media and also a reporter and short story writer.
In 2005, a collection of stories about relationships and the role of a Vietnamese living in the United States of America titled Perfume Dreams by Andrew Lam was published.
In 2006, with the book Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora, Andrew Lam received the PEN Open Book Award.
The second book is "East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres" by Andrew Lam. Writing about East-West relations and how Asian immigration has changed the West, he made it to the top 10 of Shelf Unbound magazine's 2010 books. released the 3rd book ""Birds of Paradise Lost".
