Writer Nguyen Hien Le was born in Phuong Khe village, Quang Oai government, Son Tay province (now in Ba Vi district, Hanoi). Coming from a Confucian family, he studied in Hanoi, first at Yen Phu School, then at Buoi School.
In some of his works, he took the pseudonym Loc Dinh.
Nguyen Hien Le. died on December 22, 1984, at An Binh Hospital, Cho Lon, TP. Ho Chi Minh, aged 73 years old.

- In 1934, he graduated from Hanoi College of Public Works, then went to work in the southwestern provinces, starting a half-century of life with the South, with the island. Pearl Vien Dong.
- After 1945, he quit his job at the office and went to teach in Long Xuyen.
- In 1952, he moved to Saigon to open a publishing house and translate books, compose and write articles.
- In 1980, he returned to Long Xuyen, he started writing. Memoirs of Nguyen Hien Le, completed in September 1980. At the same time, he separated the sections on literature, corrected, supplemented and edited into the book My writing life. This work was completed in 1981, then further revised and completed in 1983.
