Monks Ajahn Chah profile

Who is Monks Ajahn Chah?
Ajahn Chah (1918 - 1992) was a famous Thai monk famous for Zen practice of Theravada Buddhism.
After many years of practicing in the forest, Venerable Ajahn Chah returned to a forest near his home to continue his study. practice practice. This is a forest that people still consider to be home to many poisonous snakes, ghosts and tigers. But that's why the Venerable thinks this is the most suitable place. It is here that many monks and nuns and Buddhists know the Venerable Master and participate in visiting the Buddha.
The Dharma of the Venerable Ajahn Chah is to go from simple and direct things to concentrate and gain wisdom. The Venerable's lectures are simple, not fussy with difficult to understand terms.
According to the Venerable, Buddhism is mainly about cultivating the mind to reach enlightenment and liberation. Cultivating the mind does not simply mean doing good and avoiding evil, but looking directly into the mind, examining it carefully to know its workings and nature. If you want to cultivate your mind, you must try and persevere, but no god can do it for you.
Not only cultivate the Mind, but the Buddhist meditation practice also begins with the practice of Only (Samatha) ie the practice of quieting the mind and then proceeding to the practice of Quan. When the mind is at rest, start practicing vipassana, clearly seeing that this body and mind are just the five aggregates (khandhas) i.e. form, feeling, perception, formations and consciousness. Contemplate clearly how those aggregates arise, abide and pass away and see clearly their character as Impermanent, Suffering and Not-Self (Anicca, Dukkha, Anatta). To see clearly like this is to see the truth about body and mind, ie to gain wisdom.
The Venerable's sermons are easy to hear and understand, some of the Venerable's short sermons such as:
  • No matter how we feel about our lives, don't try to change things. Instead, we just contemplate and know them as such. When there is suffering, knowing that it is suffering, you will also see the way out of suffering. All Zen practices have the value of developing mindfulness. It is necessary to use the known to see the hidden truth. With that awareness we keep track of desires, likes and dislikes, happiness and suffering, as they arise in the mind. Seeing them as Impermanent, Suffering and Not-Self, we let go of them. Thus, wisdom will replace ignorance, knowledge will replace doubt. more chaos. We need to practice to let go of all desires, even the desire for enlightenment. Only then can we be liberated.
  • Don't read the book! Read in your own mind
  • Buddhist Dharma is not in books. If you really want to see the Buddha's teaching, don't look it up in books. Just examine your own mind. Meditate on sensations coming and going, thoughts coming and going. Don't cling to anything,...

Not only did he preach in his country, but he also gave sermons in Western countries such as Britain, America, and Switzerland. ,... What is pure in the Buddha's teachings that the venerable one has brought and propagated to his disciples has been handed down forever. Currently, in Thailand, there are hundreds of Buddhist temples following the Venerable's Zen practice, founded by his disciples.
In 1992, Venerable Ajahn Chah died in Thailand and lived at the age of 74.
