Australian author remembered best for her 1977 international best-selling The Thorn Birds, which was adapted into one of the all-time highest rated television miniseries. Her other works include Tim 1974, An Indecent Obsession 1981 and Morgan's Run 2000.
She taught in the Department of Neurology at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut from 1967 to 1976.
