As Colorado Poet Laureate and co-director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Colorado, this published author of famous poetry collections such as The Country I Remember and The Burial House. After earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado, he received his doctorate from the University of Rochester and then began a decade-long teaching career at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
He and his first wife, Jonna Heinrich, lived in Greece for a time. He later married Anne Lennox and, when the ensemble also ended in divorce, co-poet Cally Conan-Davies.
