Poet Thanh Tung's real name is Doan Tung, born in My Loc, Nam Dinh, but he grew up in a port land Hai Phong. Many of his famous poems were written about Hai Phong - the city of red phoenix flowers.

- Poet Thanh Tung used to work as a porter on Hai Phong harbor, then switched to a shipbuilder. For a long time he worked as an escort. When the poem "Red Flower Age" was set to music, he worked as a bookseller on the sidewalk after quitting his job as a shipbuilder.
- In 1997, he was appointed acting as the representative of Vietnam to Greece to read poetry with delegates from other countries.
- In 2001, Thanh Tung published his first collection of poems titled "Red Flower Time" (Literature Publishing House). ) was awarded by the Vietnam Writers Association in 2002.
- Poet Thanh Tung experienced two marriages. His first marriage broke up. Thanh Tung's first wife (name Thanh Nhan) in Hai Phong broke up with him to marry someone else in Quang Ninh. Although they broke up, Thanh Tung still loves this wife.
- In 1995, according to the matchmaking of the poet and his wife Hoang Hung, Thanh Tung moved to the South to get married when he was 60 years old. His second wife is a young volunteer in the anti-American era, also a loving reader of his poetry. After entering the South, he composed the Phuong Nam epic.
