Mayor of Atlanta from 1962-1970, who helped usher in an era of desegregation in the city. During his time out of the office, he ordered all officials to remove all "white" and "colored" signs from the facility at the city hall and he was also one of those politicians who pointed out white to Lam. Testimony before Congress could not be on behalf of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
His life inspired the Allen Ivan Prize for Social Courage, which was awarded at the Georgia Tech University.
