The first African-American mayor of Los Angeles, California, an office that he held from 1973 to 1993. He had the longest term of any mayor in the city's history before the city. passed establishing term limits in 1990.
The racial segregation that apparently caused his sudden loss in the 1982 race for Governor led to the prime term. the "Bradley effect", which was commonly used in the 2008 Presidential elections.
