Trey Gowdy full name is Harold Watson Gowdy III, is an American politician, lawyer and prosecutor. He is currently a member of Congress for the state of South Carolina. He was a member of the Tea Party movement and the Republican Party. Before being elected to parliament, he was an attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which includes Spartanburg and the Cherokee Counties. From 1994-2000, Trey Gowdy served as federal prosecutor for the U. S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina. In 2014, he became chairman of the House Select Committee to investigate.
Trey Gowy served as clerk for John P. Gardner on the South Carolina Court of Appeals and as clerk for Judge George Ross Anderson, Jr. He then worked for the private sector before being selected as a federal prosecutor in April 1994. He was awarded the Postal Inspector's Award for successfully tracing the case of J. Mark Allen, a serious suspect in the US.
In 2010, in the race for congress, Gowdy took the lead in the number of votes compared to other candidates. In the run-off election, Gowdy defeated Inglis by 70-30 votes. He then defeated Democratic candidate Paul Corden by 63-29 votes.
In 2012 and 2014, Trey Gowy ran for re-election and was re-elected both times. In the November 2016 election, Trey Gowy faced Democrat Chris Fedalei, a 26-year-old young attorney. He easily defeated his opponent with 67.23% of the vote, and secured his position.

Trey Gowy grew up in Spartanburg, working as a local postman. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1982. In 1986 he received a B.A. in history from Baylor University and earned a J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1989.
Trey Gowy is the son of Novalene (née Evans) and Harold Watson "Hal" Gowdy, Jr, MD. Gowdy is married to Terri (née Dillard), former Miss Spartanburg and runner-up of the Miss South Carolina pageant. He and his wife have two children, Watson and Abigail.
