Truong Bao Yen is from Quy Hop, Nghe An and is of the Tho ethnicity. Since childhood, she has had a special interest in music. Folk songs and red songs often sung by her mother in the family have become part of her childhood memories, nurturing her love of singing.
That passion soon manifested itself when Bao Yen was still young. When she was in 5th grade, she and her younger sister used to travel about 15 km to go to the district children's house to participate in cultural activities. However, her path to becoming a professional singer was not paved with favorable conditions.
Growing up in a family with many siblings, Bao Yen had to find a way to stabilize her life before she could devote herself fully to music. She studied accounting and did office work, then switched to nail work, sewing and fashion design. These jobs both help her make ends meet and create conditions for her to continue nurturing her passion for art.
From many jobs to make a living to the path of singing
Before becoming known to the public, Truong Bao Yen went through a rather special journey. After working as an accountant, she realized she was not suitable for office work and decided to look for opportunities in the music field.
Without a formal art training path since childhood, Bao Yen mainly accumulated experience through performing and self-study. She also opened a nail salon, then taught herself sewing and fashion design through YouTube. At one point, garment work became the main source of income to help her maintain her life and continue to pursue singing.
For Bao Yen, these jobs are not a departure from art but a way for her to create an economic foundation to keep her dream. The process of working and singing at the same time helps the female singer develop initiative and bravery in facing difficulties in life.
Turning point from Star Search 2020
The year 2020 marked a memorable step in Truong Bao Yen's career when she participated in the program Star Finds a Star. This is a playground that helps female singers have the opportunity to reach a large audience and work with many experienced artists.
At the contest, Bao Yen conquered the rounds one by one to advance to the final night with Tuong Duy, Tuan Kha and My Hao. On the final night of the competition, she teamed up with Tuan Kha to perform the medley Call from the Earth - Mom loves you.
The final result, My Hao won the Champion, Tuong Duy won the Runner-up, and Truong Bao Yen and Tuan Kha both received the Third Prize.
Even though it did not win the highest position, the program became an important milestone to help Bao Yen become more widely known. This is also an opportunity for her to have more professional relationships and gradually build her professional path.
Supported by Dam Vinh Hung and decided to move south
After Star Finds Stars 2020, Truong Bao Yen received support from Dam Vinh Hung and had more opportunities to participate in shows. These experiences gave her more motivation to decide to move to the South, looking for a more favorable environment for her singing career.
Decided to go to the city. Setting up a business in Ho Chi Minh City is not easy for Bao Yen. At that time, she was married and had two sons. Having to leave her children to pursue her career was an emotional choice, but the female singer still decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately, Bao Yen entered the city. HCM was right during the Covid-19 epidemic, causing performance activities to almost freeze. There weren't many stages to sing on, so she had to find other jobs to make ends meet. The female singer used to livestream sales, sing on online platforms and participate in online music competitions.
There was a time when she thought about returning to her hometown. However, the love for music and the desire to build a career in the city. Ho Chi Minh City makes Bao Yen continue to try.
Truong Bao Yen was crowned Champion of Star Arena 2025
In the final night of Star Arena 2025, team Doan Trang brought the performance Lullaby Country, combining many materials including Xam singing, new music and rap. The performance had the participation of Doan Trang, Truong Bao Yen, Truong Thuy Quynh, Truong Dang Chau and Poppy Nhat Liem.
After the competition of three teams, Doan Trang team achieved 39.75 points, surpassing team Quoc Dai with 39.5 points and team Sy Luan with 39.25 points. The results helped Truong Bao Yen and Truong Thuy Quynh both become Star Arena 2025 Champions.
This is a special achievement for Bao Yen after many years of pursuing art. From an ethnic Tho girl in Nghe An who had to do many jobs to make a living, she gradually sought opportunities and eventually won a great title on her singing path.
