Umji joined the entertainment industry quite early, once she went to dinner with friends she caught the attention of the source company manager; she was then accepted as a trainee at Source Music.
In January 2015, she officially debuted as a member of the girl group GFriend, where she was assigned is the youngest member and is the backing vocalist of the group. She and her group successfully performed the song "Glass Bead" after a while her group also successfully released the second single "Me Gustas Tu"; Her group has attracted attention in the international market.
