Who is Suspect Ho Duy Hai?
Ho Duy Hai is a suspect in the horrific murder case at Cau Voi Post Office 2008. This is one of the most famous and complicated criminal cases of Vietnam. The case lasted more than a decade with many unexpected developments. After Ho Duy Hai was sentenced to death, this "death prisoner" family went around complaining about their children. Ho Duy Hai was allowed to postpone the execution of his sentence only 1 day before the event. This is an unprecedented event in the history of the Supreme People's Court (Supreme People's Court).
In the morning of January 14, 2008, a murder case was discovered that shook the countryside of Long An. National public opinion was shocked by the news of 2 female employees of Cau Voi Post Office (address: Hamlet 5, Nhi Thanh commune, Thu Thua district, Long An Province) was brutally murdered. Two victims Nguyen Thi Anh Hong (born in 1985) and Nguyen Thi Thu Van (born in 1987) were murdered by cutting their throats.
March 21, 2008, suspect Ho Duy Hai ( Born in 1985, living in Hamlet 1, Nhi Thanh Commune, Thu Thua District, Long An Province) was prosecuted and detained. According to the Long An Provincial Police Investigation Agency, the suspect Ho Duy Hai before the time of the crime was owed 15 million VND for writing and betting on football. The motive of the suspect was murder and robbery.
On December 1, 2008, Ho Duy Hai was sentenced to death for murder, 5 years in prison for robbery, the total penalty is death.
On April 28, 2009, the Appeal Court of the Supreme People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City rejected the appeal and sentenced Ho Duy Hai to death.
After the death sentence, Ho Duy Hai made an application to the President asking for a leniency of the death penalty. The defendant's family repeatedly complained.
On May 24, 2011, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court decided not to protest against the cassation.
November 24, 2011 , the Procurator General of the Supreme People's Procuracy Nguyen Hoa Binh decided not to appeal against cassation.

December 2014, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan ( suspect's mother Ho Duy Hai) received information that he would execute the death sentence with Ho Duy Hai on December 5, 2014. On December 4, 2014, the Office of the President of the State issued a written request to suspend the execution of the sentence to see if the suspect Ho Duy Hai was wrongfully convicted or not according to the petition of Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan. and lawyers. The surprise is considered a miracle, Ho Duy Hai was allowed to postpone the execution of the death sentence exactly 1 day before the execution.
On November 22, 2019, the Procurator General of the Supreme People's Procuracy protested to the Director. After receiving a request to consider and settle the case in accordance with the law from the President of the State, Nguyen Phu Trong in July 2019.
On May 8, 2020, the Cassation Trial Panel approved a public vote and decided not to accept the People's Procuracy's protest. Supreme Court and upheld the first-instance judgment. Up to now, this case still has many different opinions in public opinion, requested by the National Assembly Standing Committee to consider, the judgment has not been executed yet.
