American psychiatrist who founded the Menninger Foundation and the Menninger Clinics in Topeka, Kansas. In his book, The Human Mind, he famously argued that mental illness is just a little different than sane individuals.
He was awarded the Medal of Freedom, by Jimmy Carter in 1981, as one of the first members of the Joint Systems Research Society.
