In high school, she competed on the cheerleading team and the kick track. She then studied English at St. John. She was attending college at New York University, when she decided to move to Los Angeles and give acting a serious try. She started by taking improv courses at the famous Groundlings school. She had her first part in 2006 on the CBS sitcom Love Monkey. In 2007, she landed a role on HBO's Entourage. Her career began picking up speed in 2011, when she starred in two CBS sitcoms, Two Broke Girls and Mike & amp; Molly, and later in the television series White Collar on American Anatomy and Gray on ABC.
She was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, to an Indian Hindu father, Ghanshan "Ken" Mahendru a journalist and professor, and a Russian mother, Olga, who is a Russian businesswoman and artist. She had led a nomadic lifestyle as a child, as she was constantly commuting between Frankfurt, Germany, and St Petersburg, Russia. When her parents separated when she was 13, she moved to East Meadow, New York, with her father.
