Who is Actor Hugh Griffith?
Best known for his Oscar-winning performance of Sheik Ilderim in the 1959 historical epic Ben-Hur, he is also remembered for his Oscar and BAFTA-nominated performance in the 1963 comedy film Tom Jones, as well as giving her Golden Globe- her nomination in Oliver! and The Fixer (both released in 1968).
Although at the end of his life he suffered from the effects of long-term alcoholism, he still managed to portray Caradog Lloyd-Evans in a classic 1978 cult, made-to-TV movie titled. Grand Slam.

He was accepted into the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), but was forced to temporarily give up his budding acting career to join the British Army during the World War II years. . After returning from the war, he began a successful singing career in both London and the United States, performing with Richard Burton in a 1952 Broadway staged of Legend of Lovers.
The child of William and Mary Griffith, he spent his youth in Anglesey, Wales, and later moved to London, England. He was married to Margaret Adelgunde Beatrice von Dechend.
