Who is Literary critic Hoai Thanh?
Literary critic Hoai Thanh was born Nguyen Duc Nguyen, he also has other pseudonyms such as Van Thien, Le Nha Que. He and his brother Hoai Chan are two famous authors with the book "Vietnamese poets".
Before 1945, Hoai Thanh was considered the head of the school of literary criticism Art for art's sake. During this period he wrote and composed works such as:

• Writing newspapers: Thuong, Le Peuple (founded by Nguyen Van Tran), La Gazette de Hue, Trang An, Song Huong , Tao Dan.
• In 193, published the book Literature and Action.
• Vietnamese poet 1932-1941 (co-written with younger brother Hoai Chan, but with donations. mainly Hoai Thanh).

After 1945, he in turn held the position of Chairman of the National Salvation Cultural Association in Hue. He also taught at Hanoi University from 1945 to 1946. From 1947-1948, he worked at the Voice of Vietnam. In 1950, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Arts and Culture Association. He was the Head of the Culture and Arts Subcommittee of the Central Propaganda Department from 1950-1956. Director of the Department of Arts and Teaching at the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi University in 1958. Deputy Director of the Institute of Vietnamese Literature cum Editor-in-Chief of the Institute's Journal of Literary Studies. From 1969 to 1975, he held the position of Chairman of the weekly Van Nghe. He is also a member of the 2nd National Assembly, General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; in the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association, term 1 and 2.
In 2000, Hoai Thanh was posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art, the second phase with the following works: Essay Criticism (3 volumes), Talk of Resistance Poetry; Vietnamese poet.
Hoai Thanh died on March 14, 1982 in Hanoi.

Hoai Thanh participated in the Dong Du movement against the French of Phan Boi Chau.
When he was young, he was a student at Quoc Hoc Vinh School. At the age of 19, he graduated valedictorian at the general level of Vinh Quoc Hoc School. Hoai Thanh went to Hanoi to study at Buoi School. He joined the Tan Viet revolutionary party organization, so he was arrested and sentenced to 6 months of suspended prison, deported to his hometown.
After being released from prison, Hoai Thanh continued to study at Buoi School but was soon expelled for keeping documents against the French government. In 1930, he passed the baccalaureate and applied for a job at the popular daily newspaper.
