Notable for her Hanne Wilhelmsen and Vik/Stubo series of detective fiction, this internationally popular Norwegian writer has also written a number of independent titles, including Mea Culpa (1997) and Bernhard Pinkertons Oppdrag (1999).
From late 1996 to early 1997, she served as Minister of Justice in the cabinet of Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland.

Raised in Larvik, Lillestrom, and Tromso, Norway, she later settled in Oslo with her partner Anne Christine Kjaer and the couple's daughter, Iohanne.
