Author of the popular Inkheart trilogy and recipient of numerous literary awards in her native United States, Japan and Germany. In addition to the Inkheart books, she has written Ghost Hunters, MirrorWorld, and Wild Chicks fantasy/adventure series.
In addition to Inkheart and a series of other adventures, she has also written many independent books, including The Thief Lord, Dragonrider, and When Santa Fell Came to Earth.

She was born in Dorsten, Germany to Helmi and Karl-Heinz Funke. She has two children-- Anna and Ben-- with her husband, Rolf Frahm.
