Shirley Jackson full name is Shirley Hardie Jackson, is an American writer. She is a famous writer of her generation and her works have attracted the attention of literary critics in recent years. Shirley's literary style is influenced by Stephen King, Nigel Kneale, Neil Gaiman, Joanne Harris and Richard Matheson.
In 1938, while she was still studying at Syracuse, she published her first novel, "Janice". Since then, this work has been printed in Harper, Mademoiselle, Collier, Good Housekeeping, The New Republic, The New Yorker, Woman's Home Companion, Woman's Day, and many other newspapers and publications. She is best known to the public through the short story "The Lottery" released in 1948, the work "The Haunting of the Hill House" in 1959.
Writer Shirley Jackson died on August 8, 1965 at her home. in North Bennington, a heart attack while sleeping. Before her death, she was overweight, had a smoking habit and suffered from a number of mental illnesses.
