Albert Ball is best known as a fighter pilot in World War I. He shot down 43 enemy planes and 1 hot air balloon, he also made a great contribution in the battle of the Somme in 1916.
His plane was shot down on 7/5/1917 by German fighter aircraft in the war at Douai.
On June 8, 1917, he was posthumously awarded the title Victoria Cross.
