So when he just finished elementary school, Tien Long went to Hanoi himself to take the entrance exam to the football team. Before that, at the age of 10, Tien Long was accepted into Viettel's youth training center. But after that, Viettel Hanoi unit did not accept it. Although very disappointed, but then Tien Long quickly regained his spirit and applied for a trial job at the Hanoi youth team club when he was only 13 years old. After 2 months of hard work, Vu Tien Long was officially accepted into the Hanoi FC team. After being selected to Hanoi FC, Vu Tien Long had a new start for his career. But Tien Long had to go through a bad period in his career when he was only 15-16 years old. In 2017, during the national U15 final match, Vu Tien Long was threatened by Coach U15 Thanh Hoa - Le Hong Minh to "cut the tendons in his leg". In the decisive match for the Asian U16 finals, he received a red card and the team also lost miserably against the Iranian team. As the head central defender, Vu Tien Long has been criticized a lot. However, he still did not give up, but tried to practice silently every day, pursuing unfinished goals.
