Chilean politician and women's suffragette who, in 1953, became the first woman to serve in the Chilean Senate.
She won her Senate seat by the largest margin recorded up to that point. However, just six months after being sworn in, she was accused of participating in an Argentine smuggling lake chain and was removed from the Senate despite the complete lack of evidence against her.
