Molecular biologist who is known for her discovery of the enzyme telomerase in 1984. She was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physiology for her discovery that progressive shortening in telomeres is prevented by the enzyme telomerase.
In 2003, she became a member of both the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
